Abundant wildlife is resident to Tarkinegrove's grounds as we are surrounded by a variety of habitat of forests, fields, gorges, mountains and rivers. Bird enthusiasts, photographers and artists will love Tarkinegrove. Stroll to the dam to see the Platypus at dusk or during the day watch the Brown Falcon family soaring the thermals and perhaps the wedgetail eagle or try to count the number of different birds here. See if you can spot 'Rufus', the Scarlet Robin, the Green Rosellas or Mr Spinebill. If you are lucky you can see the rare and protected giant freshwater lobster, Tayatea from the bridges that traverse the spring fed stream or in the dam but at night the action starts. Tasmanian Devil numbers have dropped due to the Facial Tumour Disease spreading across to the west coast the devil family numbers have dropped, but there are still some being caught on camera along Spotted Tail Quolls. You may hear their screams during the night along with the calls of the Brown Tree Frog and the Tasmanian Smooth Froglet. Whilst Pademelons (wallabies), Eastern Barred Bandicoot and Possums will visit your grassed area around the cottage. Many of these critters are resident others are seasonal. And since we are so far away from any light pollution, the night's sky is iridescent. Our guests are saying "a truly peaceful place".
